Who is Joe Escobar?
Joe Escobar has been a well known vocalist and musician in the San Francisco Bay Area for many years. Known for his smooth voice, his renditions of songs by famous crooners like Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Bobby Darin, etc. really capture the styles of those artists without trying to impersonate them. Joe is also an accomplished trombonist, songwriter, arranger, and and has produced all of his own music in his home studio in Oakland, California.
Joe Escobar Quartet
The original members of the quartet are Joe Escobar on vocals and trombone, John Quam on piano, Bob Chandler on bass, and Bill Belasco on drums. These players are the musicians on Joe's CD, "It's My Turn". Other players that work with the group are Mark Rossi (piano), John Groves (piano), Steve Comber (bass), Fred Randolph (bass), Kelly Fasman (drums), Jason Hansen (drums), all of which are talented and respected players in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Joe Escobar Trio
The Joe Escobar Trio came about when Joe found that several venues only wanted or had room for trios. Joe is a very accomplished MIDI music programmer from years of performing as part of a duo in the Nevada casinos. He pre-programmed and sequenced the drum parts for his band and the trio played as a quartet using a drum machine. The drum programming was so good that if you closed your eyes you would swear that there was a live drummer. This enabled the trio to do a steady gig at Joe Dimaggio's in San Francisco, as well as a long stint at the Paragon Cafe at the Claremont Hotel in Berkeley, CA. The group works as a trio fairly often, offering clients a more affordable alternatve with the same sound in a smaller package.
Joe Escobar's Rhythm & Motion
Joe Escobar is now offering an even smaller version of the group, a duo utilizing sequenced drums, bass and other synth sounds along with live guitar provided by Russell Golub, and vocals, keyboards and trombone by Joe. The name "Rhythm & Motion" comes from a popular duo Joe created in 1986 when he lived in Reno, Nevada. He and his female singer partners performed in the casinos in Reno, Las Vegas and throughout Nevada and the northwest for over 15 years. Joe programmed all of the music and the duo sounded like a 4-10 piece band depending on what they were playing. One important benefit of the duo over the larger groups is that with the addition of a guitar, it opens up the possibility of performing a wider range of musical styles. The song list continuously grows to match the needs of new clients.
